Thanks for stopping by to get to know us better. We’re happy to tell you all about us. The lady you see to the left is Mrs. Betty Baskin. She’s a kind spirit, wonderful human being, faithful child of God, a fantastic cook, and most importantly of all – our mother and the center and heart of Southern Hands Home Style Cooking. Southern Hands is made up of six owners and we are all family.
The other owners include Daryl Green – her son; Nina Brown – her daughter; Cassandra Baskin – her daughter; Earl Baskin – her son; and lastly me, Racquel Adams – her daughter. I was given the privilege of telling you about the food we grew up on.
The name Southern Hands Home Style Cooking was a name that my sister Cassandra thought of. She was thrilled to name the restaurant. She said the name symbolized strength. You see, my mother picked cotton, washed clothes on washboards, and sometimes worked her fingers to the bones. She started cooking at the young age of 7 and although her hands had been through a lot, she loved to cook even as a young girl. She never thought of it as a chore or hard work; it was just her joy.
My sister told her that her gift was to cook and that her hands were a blessing that should not be kept a secret. My sister said hands that strong and a heart as big as my mom’s could only come from a Southerner – hence the name Southern Hands Home Style Cooking. My mother is a wonderful cook and a beautiful person inside and out. She has passed down her gifts to me and my siblings. We wish to share them with everyone willing to try the Best Food This Side of Heaven.
Well, like I mentioned, we are family. We are very close and loving and because of that we would like to offer you the chance to get to know our family and enjoy the food that we sat around the table and talked about our good and bad times over. Believe me, by the time our family dinners were over, we were all smiling again!!! Our food will make you remember why family and friends are so important.
Here at Southern Hands Home Style Cooking we are not just a business – we are family. We believe that one should always take time out for family and friends. We are in the business of happiness and a whole lot of laughter. You might walk in having a bad day but trust me you will leave out on cloud nine. It’s the funniest thing but our food is and will always be comfort food and our staff is our family so when you bless us with your presence you become family too.
